Kayne McLaggon appointed Head of Academy

Barry Town United AFC are pleased to announce the appointment of Kayne McLaggon as the club’s new Head of Academy.

A former professional footballer and well-respected figure within Welsh football, McLaggon returns to his hometown club where he previously made a huge impact as a player. During his time here he captained the side and became a key leader both on and off the pitch, earning the respect of teammates, staff and supporters alike.

Following a successful playing career across the professional and semi-professional game, McLaggon has built a strong reputation within youth development. He brings elite academy experience to the role, having worked within professional EFL academy environments, where he was involved in the development of young players within high-performance pathways.

In addition, his time working within the Football Association of Wales has given him a strong understanding of the domestic game in Wales and the development structures that support young players across the country.

As Head of Academy, McLaggon will lead Barry Town United’s youth development programme, overseeing the club’s pathway from academy through to senior football. His role will focus on developing talented young players, mentoring coaches, and strengthening the connection between our grassroots section, the academy and the wider football eco system in the Vale.

Speaking on his appointment, McLaggon said:

“I’m incredibly proud to be returning to Barry Town United in this role. It’s my hometown club which has always meant a lot to me from my time here as a supporter, player and captain. I know what it feels like to put on that Barry Town shirt and I’m excited about the opportunity to now help develop the next generation of players to wear it. There is a real opportunity to build a strong pathway for young footballers in Barry and the wider area, and I’m looking forward to getting started.”

Kayne’s role will commence in April and everyone here would like to welcome Kayne back to the club and wish him every success in his new role.
