Owen Cuddihy says Barry Town United must remain hungry and continue believing in themselves after the Town maintained their perfect start to the Novira Cymru Premier season.
Steve Jenkins’ side made it five wins from five on Friday night with a 4-2 victory over Airbus UK Broughton at Jenner Park, continuing an impressive opening to the 2026/27 campaign.
Reflecting on the start and Friday’s performance, Cuddihy believes putting points on the board early in the season could prove important as the campaign develops.
“Buzzing with the start. A strong start in this league sets you in really good stead for the rest of the season and you don’t get better than five from five!”
Despite the perfect record, Cuddihy believes there is still plenty more to come from the Town.
Barry have already been required to show different sides to their game this season, from Daniel Smith’s late winner against Cambrian United to coming from behind to win away at both Flint Town United and Holywell Town.
For Cuddihy, those performances demonstrate the strength of the group and how quickly the summer arrivals have settled into life at Jenner Park.
“The group’s brilliant this year. The new boys have settled in superbly and we’ve already begun to develop an identity.
“If I’m honest, we know we probably haven’t had a proper 10/10 performance yet, so we know there’s still so much more to come from us as a squad.”
“We’ve got to stay hungry”
Five consecutive victories have understandably created plenty of confidence within the Barry dressing room, but Cuddihy insists the squad cannot allow their strong start to change their mentality.
“Any team that wins five from five is always going to have that confidence going into games.
“We’ve just got to make sure we stay hungry and keep believing that we can win any game we play in.”
Attention now quickly turns to Bank Holiday Monday, with Barry making the trip to face Briton Ferry Llansawel.
With only a matter of days between the two fixtures, recovery and preparation will be crucial ahead of another challenging away test.
“Ferry is always a tough place to go, let alone going there on a quick turnaround. We’ll recover and prepare as much as we can.
“As long as our mentality is right, I’m sure we’ll go there and give a good account of ourselves.”
Cuddihy and many of his teammates already know what to expect from a trip to Briton Ferry, with the different surroundings and playing surface likely to provide another test for Jenkins’ side.
“Most of us have played there before, so we know what to expect. The pitch is obviously a lot different to Jenner, which will make the game a different contest.
“Ferry are a good side and will make it as difficult as they can for us, so we’ve got to be ready to go there and battle.”
With 15 points from a possible 15, the Town now head back on the road looking to make it six consecutive league victories and round off a perfect August.
