Barry Town United AFC can confirm that its members voted yesterday to approve the proposals presented at the club’s Extraordinary General Meeting, marking an important new chapter in the history of the football club.
The proposals will see Barry Town United transition to a new ownership structure under Mark Barrett and his family, providing a platform for continued development, long-term growth and investment in the football club.
Mark Barrett has been extensively involved with Barry Town United for the past 13 years, during which time he has committed significant personal time, energy and financial support to the club. He currently serves as Club Chairman, and that commitment will continue under the new ownership structure, with Mark and his family determined to build on the foundations already established and drive the club forward.
The decision follows discussions with members and the Board over recent weeks and represents a significant step in shaping the future direction of Barry Town United.
Protecting the club’s identity and community.
At the heart of the new structure is a commitment to the identity, history and community values of Barry Town United.
The club will continue its commitment to its 950 registered players, youth development and community initiatives, building on the work already taking place across Barry.
The women’s section currently operates independently, and the club will now begin formal discussions to explore how all sections of Barry Town United can operate under a unified model.
The new ownership structure provides a foundation for responsible investment and creates opportunities for the club to strengthen its football operations, commercial activity, facilities and wider community work.
The ambition is to continue building a sustainable football club capable of developing and growing over the long term, while remaining closely connected to the people and community it represents.
Looking ahead
There is now work to complete to implement the new structure and put the necessary arrangements in place.
The club would like to thank its members, supporters, volunteers, staff, players, coaches and everyone across the wider Barry community for their continued support.
Mark Barrett commented:
“Last night marked an important moment in the history of Barry Town United.
We are incredibly grateful to everyone who took the time to engage with the proposals and to the members for placing their trust in the future direction we have outlined.
This is about creating a sustainable foundation for Barry Town United to grow, while protecting the identity, history and community values that make this club so important to so many people.
There is a lot of work still to do, but we are excited about what the future can bring. Our ambition is clear: to build a stronger, sustainable Barry Town United that our town, our supporters and future generations can be proud of.”
