First team

“It’s huge for us as a team. The supporters are the 12th man”

Barry Town United forward Elliott Dugan is delighted to be back out on the pitch following his recent spell on the sidelines with injury, as the Town prepare to welcome Trefelin BGC to Jenner Park this Friday night.

The Town will be looking to return to winning ways after last weekend’s 1-3 defeat to Haverfordwest County, with Friday’s fixture providing an opportunity to bounce back in front of the home supporters.

Dugan recently returned to action after working hard behind the scenes to regain his fitness, and the forward is now focused on building his match sharpness and contributing to the team once again.

“Really happy to be back on the pitch after what feels like forever!” Dugan said. “It wasn’t the easiest of first games, but I’m really happy to get 60 under my belt and continue to build from it.”

The forward also admitted how difficult it was to watch from the sidelines, particularly when he was unable to help his teammates on the pitch.

“It’s really tough to watch as you really want to help the boys on the pitch,” he explained. “I’ve been working really hard with Arron and Leighanne over the past four weeks to make sure I can get back, and they’ve really helped me.”

With his return now underway, Dugan is determined to continue progressing and building his fitness with every game and training session.

“Now it’s just about getting match sharpness and continuing to build game by game and session by session.”

Attention now turns to Friday’s clash with Trefelin, as Barry look to put last weekend’s disappointment behind them and get back to winning ways. Having reviewed the Haverfordwest defeat, Dugan believes the squad have learned valuable lessons ahead of the fixture.

“Yeah, it was a tough one to take on Saturday, but we’ve watched it back and looked at things we can do differently. We’ve learned from it, and now it’s about putting it into action for Friday, which I have no doubt we will.”

The Town will also be hoping for a strong turnout at Jenner Park, with FREE ENTRY for all supporters making Friday night the perfect opportunity to get behind the team.

Dugan highlighted just how important the Barry faithful can be in helping the players get over the line and build momentum again.

“It’s huge for us as a team. The supporters are the 12th man, and hearing them gives us that extra push. We want to build a run again, and the supporters play a huge part in that.”

He added: “Free entry and football on a Friday is a great way to start your weekend!”

With free entry, Friday-night football and three points up for grabs, the Town will be hoping for a big crowd at Jenner Park as they look to bounce back in the Novira Cymru Premier.
