Barry Town United return to Jenner Park this Saturday as the Town begin their FAW Welsh Cup campaign against Tredegar Town AFC.
The fixture marks the first of three consecutive home games for the Town as they look to make the most of home advantage and continue their journey in one of Welsh football’s most historic competitions.
Barry have a proud history in the FAW Welsh Cup, having lifted the trophy on six occasions. The club’s previous triumphs came in the 1954–55, 1993–94, 1996–97, 2000–01, 2001–02 and 2002–03 seasons.
The Town will be hoping to add another memorable Welsh Cup chapter this season, but first they must overcome a Tredegar side who have already enjoyed an impressive run in the competition.
The Opposition
Founded in 1968, originally as Rhyd Boys Club, Tredegar Town AFC have established themselves in Welsh football and currently compete in the Ardal Southern League under manager Liam McCann.
Nicknamed ‘The Town’, Tredegar currently sit 16th in the league but have demonstrated their ability to compete in the Welsh Cup, winning three ties to reach this stage.
Their cup run has included a thrilling 4-3 victory over Bridgend Street, a 1-0 win against Abernant FC and a penalty shootout victory over Penydarren Seniors BGC.
With three cup wins already under their belts, Tredegar will arrive at Jenner Park determined to cause an upset and extend their run in the competition.
Barry will therefore need to be focused from the first whistle as they look to book their place in the next round.
