Barry Town vs Aberystwyth Town – Match Preview

Barry Town United return to competitive action Saturday with Aberystwyth making the trip to Jenner Park Stadium in the Nathaniel MG Cup second round.

Town’s last meeting with Aberystwyth came in March with Town running out 2–1 winners at Jenner Park. The visitors kicked off their Cyrmu South campaign last weekend and secured a 2–1 win against Llantwit Major.

Callum McKenzie replaced outgoing manager Antonio Corbiseiro in the summer. The 43 year old Welshman has previously managed Newton where he took charge of 14 games between November 2024 and April 2025.

Aberystwyth have had a busy summer with 16 players leaving the club and 17 arriving as the club look to bounce back to the Cymru Premier at the first time of asking.

Saturday’s visitors made it all the way to final of this competition last season but eventually lost 1–0 to TNS at the final hurdle. Town reached the semi final of this competition last season but just like Aberystwyth lost out to TNS.

Kick off is at 14:30 at Jenner Park Stadium on Saturday!

Barry Town United Launch Retro-Inspired Away Kit for 2025/26 Season

Barry Town United AFC are proud to unveil our brand new away kit for the 2025/26 season – a striking tribute to one of the most iconic strips in our club’s proud history: the 1999–2001 Tango kit.

For many supporters, that original Tango kit represents a golden era – a time when Barry Town were at the height of their powers, dominating the Welsh domestic scene and making waves in Europe. From memorable league triumphs to unforgettable European nights, the Tango kit was there through it all. Now, a quarter of a century on, we’re bringing that spirit back with a fresh, modern take on a fan favourite.

The new kit stays true to the scheme that made the original so distinctive, while updating the design for today’s game. It features clean lines, a sharp collar, and subtle detailing that nods to the club’s heritage. It’s a kit that celebrates where we’ve been – and shows where we’re going.

This retro-inspired release isn’t just about fashion – it’s about pride, identity, and reconnecting with moments that define us. Whether you stood on the terraces back in 1999 or have only recently joined the Barry Town family, this kit is a reminder of our shared journey.

Club Chairman Mark Barrett said:
“We know how much the original Tango kit means to our supporters – it’s more than just a shirt, it’s part of our history. With this new away strip, we wanted to honour that legacy while offering something fresh for the next generation of fans. We hope the Barry faithful will wear it with as much pride as the players who wore the original two decades ago.”

The new away kit is available to order now via our official website – and fans attending this Saturday’s home fixture against Aberystwyth will also be able to purchase it in person at Jenner Park. Be among the first to get your hands on this modern classic and show your colours as we take on the season ahead.

Whether you’re adding it to your collection or reliving the glory days, this kit is sure to be a hit with supporters young and old. Don’t miss out – the retro revival has arrived.

Smith Signs!

Barry Town United are thrilled to announce the signing of striker Daniel Smith ahead of the 2025/26 season – subject to international clearance.

The forward arrives at Jenner Park with a growing reputation for his sharp movement, cool finishing, and work ethic up top. A player who knows where the goal is and isn’t afraid to put in the hard yards for the team, Daniel adds firepower and hunger to Barry’s attacking line.

Daniel said:
“I’m buzzing to get started. Barry’s a big club with proper ambition. As a striker, you want to be part of a team that plays on the front foot, and that’s exactly what this is. I’m here to score goals and give everything for the badge.”

Head of Football, Steve Jenkins, is confident Smith will make an impact.

“Daniel’s a handful – he works defenders, makes clever runs, and knows how to finish. He’s got an edge in the final third that every team needs. We’re really happy to bring him in, and I think he’ll be a big player for us this season.”

Daniel becomes the latest addition to a growing squad at Jenner Park as Barry gear up for an exciting campaign ahead.

Daniel Barton Signs

Barry Town United are excited to announce the signing of midfielder Daniel Barton ahead of the 2025/26 campaign on a two-year contract

The midfielder arrives at Jenner Park with a reputation for intelligence on the ball, high work rate, and an eye for a forward pass. A dynamic central midfielder who’s comfortable both breaking up play and building attacks, Daniel brings energy and versatility to the heart of the Barry midfield.

Daniel said:
“I’m really proud to be joining Barry. It’s a club with a great identity and ambition, and I want to play a part in that. The way the team wants to play suits me, and I’m looking forward to getting going.”

Head of Football, Steve Jenkins, believes Barton is a great fit for what the team is building.

“Daniel’s a really clever footballer. He covers ground, he’s sharp in possession, and he’s got the right attitude. He’s hungry, and that’s exactly what we want in this squad. He’ll bring balance and real energy in midfield.”

Daniel adds to a growing list of signings ahead of pre-season, as Barry Town United continue to build a competitive squad for the season ahead.

Welcome to the Town!

Barry Town United vs Newport County — Preview

Barry Town United take on Sky Bet League Two opposition on Friday night with Newport County making the short trip to Jenner Park Stadium. This will be the second year running where Town take on The Exiles in pre season, Town came out 2–1 winners last year.

This is both sides final friendly before returning to competitive action next week. Town host Aberystwyth in the Nathaniel MG Cup next Saturday while County head to Barnet midweek in the Carabao Cup preliminary round.

So far in pre season Town have recorded wins over Newport City and Gloucester City. County have had a mixed bag in pre season so far with wins against Weston Super Mare, Pontypridd United, Worcester City and Undy AFC. County suffered a 3–1 defeat away to Torquay United last weekend and narrowly lost 1–0 to a strong Bristol City side behind closed doors on Tuesday.

New County manager David Hughes is no stranger to Barry Town having previously played and managed the club before leaving in 2013. Since then Hughes has gone on to work for both Cardiff City and Manchester United in the academy set ups. Hughes took the job at County in May replacing Nelson Jardim who left the club just before the end of the previous campaign.

Hughes isn’t the only link between both clubs with current Town man Robbie Willmott who made just under 300 appearences for County across 2 spells. Willmott was part of Newport’s FA Cup giant killings which saw County defeat sides like Leicester City, Middlesbrough and Leeds United. Willmott was also a key figure in the County side that forced Spurs to a FA Cup replay in 2018 after drawing 1–1 at Rodney Parade.

Newport have been pretty active in the window so far adding the likes of Michael Reindorf, Ged Garner, Nick Tzanev, Lee Jenkins and perhaps most notably Matt Smith who has 19 caps for Wales. County will be hoping these new signings can help the club kick on from last seasons 22nd place finish in League Two.

Ahead of the game I spoke with Newport fan Oliver Pughe to get a point a view from the County side of things. I started off by asking about new manager David Hughes. Oliver went on to say “From speaking to the new County Manager David Hughes at Newport’s 1–0 win away at Weston, it is important that this pre season campaign allows Hughes to gather a better understanding of his players as well as trying to carry out different tactics that could be used for the start of the season.”

I also asked Oliver about the upcoming season and how he thought County would get on. “Last year was disappointing but with a new manager and some real quality being added I don’t see why we can kick on and have a more comfortable season”.

Kick off is at 19:30 on Friday at Jenner Park Stadium.

Tickets available on the gate or via Fanbase here

Barry Town United AFC and Make Your MARK Unite to Champion Mental Health and Community Wellbeing Through Football

Barry Town United AFC, one of Wales’ most storied football clubs, is proud to announce a groundbreaking partnership with Make Your MARK, the mental health charity dedicated to supporting people through the transformative power of motorcycling, Motorbiker Acts of Random Kindness, and motorbiker-led initiatives to strengthen our community. Together, the two organisations aim to break down mental health stigma, inspire resilience, and strengthen the bonds between sport and wellbeing in Barry and beyond.

With roots stretching back to 1892, Barry Town United AFC has been at the heart of its community for over a century, weathering triumphs, tragedies, and transformation. From its Southern League success of the 1920s and its historic Welsh Cup victory in 1955 to European nights at Jenner Park, Barry Town has always embodied the spirit of perseverance. This spirit aligns perfectly with the mission of Make Your MARK, which works tirelessly to support mental health, promote kindness, and remind people that they are never alone.

The partnership will see a series of joint initiatives at Jenner Park, including mental health awareness campaigns on matchdays, workshops for players and fans, and fundraising events designed to benefit local communities and the charity’s projects across Wales.

“We are delighted to join forces with Make Your MARK,” said Ollie Waterhouse at Barry Town United AFC. “Our club’s history is steeped in resilience, determination, and a deep connection to our supporters. By working with Make Your MARK, we can use our platform to champion mental health and inspire our community to look out for one another — Stronger Together on and off the pitch.”

Make Your MARK was founded to encourage small, meaningful actions supporting mental wellbeing through the power of motorcycling and how it can change lives. Football has these exact same strengths and benefits. Through its partnership with Barry Town, the charity aims to create safe non-judgemental spaces for conversations about mental health, stories of hope and togetherness so that everyone feels valued.

“Football, like motorcycling, brings people together in powerful ways,” said Paul Sims, Chairperson at Make Your MARK. “We’re honoured to work alongside Barry Town United, whose proud heritage and loyal supporters embody the same kindness and community spirit that we champion. Together, we’ll make a real difference.”

This collaboration reflects Barry Town’s ongoing commitment to its supporters and community — much like it has done for more than a century — and marks a new chapter in its proud history.

Barry Town 2–0 Newport City – Match Report

Football returned to Jenner Park Stadium on Saturday afternoon with Newport City making the short trip East as preperations for the 2025/26 JD Cymru Premier season ramped up.

New signings Keston Davies and Joe Thomas got their first minutes in the tank as Barry Town players while George Ratcliffe made his return by playing in the first half.

Town started the better and it didn’t take long to open the scoring with Ieuan Owen smashing in a cross from Owen Cuddihy to give Town a 1–0 lead after 10 minutes, Ieuan continuing on from where he left last season!

Newport City came alive after Owen’s opener calling George Ratcliffe into action for the first time after 17 minutes who produced a fine save to his right following a long range shot.

Following the goal both sides had chances in the remainder of the first half but no one could convert. Newport City tested Ratcliffe again but nothing would pass the Town keeper on his second debut. There was still time for one more chance on the stroke of half time with a curling shot from Ieuan Owen just being tipped over the bar by the City goalkeeper.

There were a few changes for Town during half time with Joe Thomas replacing George Ratcliffe in net and Keston Davies coming on for his first appearance. City made a lively start to the second half but failed to really test Thomas in the Town net.

Joe Rees had a strong shot tipped over the bar by the City goalkeeper after 58 minutes which led to a Town corner. Owen Cuddihy took the resulting corner which found it’s way through to Ieuan Owen who nodded home his and Town’s second of the afternoon.

Town ran out 2–0 winners in the end in what was an enjoyable afternoon as football returned to Jenner Park. It was great to see so many familiar faces in both the stands and on the pitch including Kayne McLaggon who has just signed for Newport City.

Town head to Bristol on Wednesday night to take on Roman Glass St George before returning back to Jenner Park next Saturday to host Cardiff City u21s as the JD Cymru Premier season approaches.

We would like to wish Newport City all the best as they prepare for another campaign in the Cymru South!
