Barry Town vs Flint Town preview

JD Cymru Premier action returns to Jenner Park this Saturday as the Yellows prepare to take on Flint Town United. A 4-1 drubbing away at Colwyn Bay last week saw Barry edge their way back into the top six ahead of Bala Town on goal difference and end a run of five league fixtures without a win. Ieuan Owen and Robbie Willmott each netted a brace to spark the spectacular triumph, and another inspired performance ensued with a 2-0 win away at Haverfordwest County in the Nathaniel MG Cup.

This weekend’s opposition come into the fixture off the back of successive defeats to Cardiff Met and Penybont respectively and have failed to pick up points in four of their last five outings. The Silkmen shipped four goals in each of those games, so paired with Barry’s recent barrage of goals it should make for a high-scoring encounter.

An up and down season to this point sees Flint sit 9^th in the standings, five points adrift of Barry and the all-important top six. Frontman Elliott Reeves has still managed to forge an exceptional solo season, sitting second in the scoring tables for the campaign with nine. The former JD Cymru North player of the season bagged a hat-trick against Llanelli Town just three games ago, and with four goals in that spell he will be the one to watch for the Town.

Barry boast an excellent record against Saturday’s opponents: three wins and a draw in their last five meetings is formidable form and will serve as encouragement that their upturn in results can be sustained.

Star man Ieuan Owen has found his scoring boots as of late, and with three goals in his last two appearances he will be full of confidence heading into a fixture he has scored in before.

Three wins on the bounce for the Town would be a huge step towards keeping pace with the league’s frontrunners, and with both sides prone to high-scoring games, Saturday promises to be a thrilling matchup.

A trip to the Blue Turtle Arena awaits the Town this Saturday as they take on Colwyn Bay on matchday 15 of the Cymru Premier.

Barry notched another point and a clean sheet on the road last Saturday against Bala Town and they remain in 7th place heading into this weekend’s encounter, two points shy of Cardiff Met in the hunt for 6th. A streak of three games unbeaten stands them in good stead to kick on and bring some points with them on the four-hour journey back to Jenner Park.

The hosts are in a fine run of form with their last loss coming six games and over a month ago at the hands of high-flyers Penybont. A 2-0 win against Briton Ferry on the weekend sees them sitting in 5th place, just a single point off the top four. Left winger Jordan Davies has bagged six times this season for the Bay, tied for fifth most in the league. He’s been in a scoring mood as of late with two goals in his last three appearances and keeping him quiet will be a priority for the Town.

They have been a tough nut to crack, conceding a league’s lowest tally of 9 goals to this point. Formidable defence promises to be a theme of the game though with Barry also boasting an impressive record conceding 17, joint 4th in the category.

The prior 6 meetings between these two have only produced one win for Barry, but a draw earlier in the season paired with their lossless streak will fill the Town with confidence this time around. They can also lean on the fact that more than half of their points so far have come away from home, one of those coming from a 1-1 draw to Saturday’s opponents at Jenner Park last month thanks to an equaliser from Robbie Willmott.

Barry will be praying the long trip up north proves to be a fruitful one with the possibility of closing the gap to their opponents to just two points at this crucial part of the campaign.

The Town are back on the road this weekend, travelling to Maes Tegid to take on Bala Town. The two sides are separated only by goal difference with Barry two places ahead in sixth after both picking up 15 points from 13 games. 

Morale is high around Jenner Park following a 5-0 drubbing of Aberystwyth in the Welsh cup last Saturday. A spectacular hat-trick from Ollie Hulbert complimented by a brace from Ieuan Owen ensured Barry’s name will be in the hat for tonight’s third round draw. 

The same cannot be said for the hosts who have been on the wrong end of the scoreline in each of their last five outings, the latest being a 3-0 defeat to fellow Cymru Premier side Connah’s Quay in the cup. They do however have their strong start to the season to fall back on, leaving them four points clear of the bottom two. Danger man Hussein Mehasseb will look to continue an excellent personal season with an impressive six goals in 13 games putting him among the league’s top scorers.

A solid league campaign thus far for Barry was strengthened by a 79^th minute equalizer from Callum Sainty to secure a 2-2 draw against third place Caernarfon Town last time out. The centre-back’s second of the season was indicative of the Town’s goalscoring threat all over the pitch, with seven players having netted multiple goals already this campaign.

The last meeting between the two was a fruitful one for the Yellows who emerged as 4-0 victors just over a month ago. Their close proximity in the table is reflective of their last seven clashes which have produced three draws and two wins apiece, although four of the last five have ended with one side taking all three points.

A big result in this ‘six-pointer’ would strengthen Barry’s place in the top half and provide them with a valuable cushion heading into the closing stages of phase one.

Aberystwyth Town vs Barry Town – Preview

Town head to West Wales in the second round of the JD Welsh Cup with a place in the hat for round three up for grabs.

Town have already faced off with Aberystwyth this season with Town running out 2-1 winners in August in the Nathaniel MG Cup.

Ollie Hulbert and Callum Sainty were on the scoresheet that afternoon and Town will be hoping for a similar outcome this weekend.

Aberystwyth currently sit 6th in the JD Cymru South, 3 points off 3rd which is the final promotion spot.

The Seasiders were relegated from the JD Cymru Premier last campaign after finishing on 21 points.

Callum McKenzie was appointed as Aberystwyth manager back in June and so far has taken charge of 11 matches, winning 5.

The 44 year old has previous managerial experience at Newtown where he took charge of 14 matches last season between November and April.

Town and Aberystwyth have previously met on 24 occasions with Town coming out on top in 14 of the meetings, The Seasiders have won 6 while 4 matches have ended as draws.

Barry Town United host Caernarfon Town on Saturday afternoon.

Town come in to the game on the back of a 1–0 defeat to Britton Ferry midweek and will be hoping to get back to winning ways back at home.

Saturday’s visitors also come in to this weekend on the back of a midweek defeat with The Cofi’s falling to a 3–1 loss at home to TNS.

Richard Davies has been in charge of the visitors since April 2023 and has so far gone on to manage 92 matches.

Prior to taking on the main job Davies had spells as both Assistant and caretaker manager.

The 40 year old has 39 wins to his name so far.

Town and Caernarfon have met once already this campaign with Town falling to a 3–1 defeat at Go Goodwins Stadium.

Town’s last victory over The Cofi’s came in November 2023 courtesy of a late Ollie Hulbert winner.

Town and Caernarfon have previously met on 22 occasions with Town coming out on top on eight times.

Barry Town United make the trip to Oswestry on Saturday afternoon to take on league leaders The New Saints.

Town and Saints have already met once this season with the first meeting ending as a 0–0 draw at Jenner Park at the end of August.

The Saints have seven wins from the opening 10 matches and currently hold a one point lead over second place Penybont.

Town sit in 5th on 14 points following Saturday’s 0–0 draw with Connah’s Quay Nomads at Jenner Park.

Craig Harrison has been in charge of The Saints since August 2022 in what is his second spell at the club following a spell between 2014–17.

During both spells Harrison has won six JD Cymru Premier titles and will no doubt have his eyes on a seventh this time around.

During the five years away from Park Hall Harrison had stints at Hartlepool United, Bangor City and Connah’s Quay Nomads.

Harrison has so far taken charge of 165 matches in his second stint and has picked up 125 wins and have lost just 26 matches.

This will be Town’s first trip to Park Hall since September 2024 where the Saints ran out 4–0 winners, Town will be hoping for an improvement this time around.

Barry Town United host Connah’s Quay Nomads on Saturday afternoon in the JD Cymru Premier.

Saturday’s visitors currently sit 7th in the league after eight fixtures, winning three.

Town come in to this weekends fixture on the back of a 3–2 win at Ogi Bridge Meadow against Haverfordwest County while Saturday’s visitors come off the back a 2–1 defeat to Caernarfon Town.

John Disney has been in charge of Nomads since the summer and has so far taken charge of 10 matches, winning four. Disney has been with the Nomads since 2023 and has worked as U19 manager and technical coach before getting the main job.

There have been 23 meetings between Town and Nomads over the years with Nomads coming out on top 12 times. Town have 6 wins in this fixture and will be hoping to add to that on Saturday. The last meeting came back in April with Town running out 2–0 winners on Deeside.

Both Town and Caernarfon come in to this fixture on the back of draws last weekend with Town earning a 0–0 draw at home to TNS while The Cofis left Haverfordwest with a 1–1 draw.

Sunday’s hosts come into this weekend top of the league with 11 points from 5 games and are the only side still unbeaten with 3 wins and 2 draws from their opening fixtures.

Richard Davies is in to his 3rd season in charge of Caernarfon and during Davies’ 2 full seasons in charge The Cofis improved on their league position each time finishing 5th in 23/24 and 4th last season. Davies had previously worked as both assistant manager and first team coach before getting the main job in 2023, since taking charge Davies has managed 84 matches winning 35.

Adam Davies joined Caernarfon from Airbus UK Broughton in 2023 and has 29 goals from 77 appearances. The Caernarfon striker has started off this season prolifically with 5 goals from 6 appearances in all competitions and is certainly one The Cofis key men.

Town and Caernarfon have met on 21 occasions with Town coming out with 8 wins, Sunday’s hosts have 10 while there have been 3 draws. Town’s last victory against The Cofis came in November 2023 with a 3–2 away win thanks to a late Ollie Hulbert winner.
